One of the rarer sights is that of two Shinkansen units being coupled together. In this image, one can see the nose covers have split and rotated into the body to expose the normally hidden coupler. The two distinct trainsets have been physically and electrically connected together so that the combined trainsets can be operated as a single unit until they are uncoupled to go their separate ways.
