I've always found this street car in the beginning of the Heian-jingu garden to be incongruous yet memorable. It is the oldest street car in Japan, constructed in 1895 as part of the 1100th year celebration of the transfer of the capital to Kyoto. It ran between Kyoto and Fushimi on an approximately 6 kilometer route until 1962. It was then was put on display at the Heian-jingu shrine, where it has remained.
