Minami Daimon (South Gate) Entrance to Tō-ji Temple

The South Entrance gate into the grounds of Tō-ji (Kyō-ō-gokoku-ji) temple in Kyoto has a small stone bridge over the micro moat that borders the southern perimeter of the grounds. While the temple has been around since 823, fire and wars have caused many of the buildings to have been destroyed over the years. The earliest building still in existance dates from 1380. The very famous 5-story pagoda, tallest of those still existing, is one of the newest buildings as it was reconstructed in 1644.
