One of my strongest memories of Shitennō-ji Temple is the incredible number of turtles that are in the pond. I'm used to seeing a few turtles in the water and occasionally seeing a couple that have climbed out on rocks to bath in the sun, but Shitennō-ji's pond had multiple structures in the middle of pond that the turtles could use as sunbathing platforms. There were close to 40 turtles on ramps this day and another approximately 70 scattered across two 3-tiered square platforms. That is a lot of turtles sunbathing in a very small pond.
