This photograph is of Himeji Castle in April 2010 immediately before it got covered for 5 years of renovation. The massive crane poised to assist in enclosing the keep is (intentionally) out of frame. On this particular day, the famed politeness of the Japanese went out the window. I lost count of how many times I was shoved out of the way by +70-year-old-ladies as they climbed to the top of the keep. Never had that experience before, nor since, but on that day, in that place...wow.
