The Otorii of Itsukushima Shrine at High Tide

The torii of Itsukushima is one of the "Three Views of Japan" that were called out in 1643 (the pine-clad islands of Matsushima and the sandbar of Amanohashidate are the other two). The current torii structure dates from 1875, but a torii has been in place since 1168. At low tide, one can walk out to and around the torii if one's foot apparel can deal with the spongy ground.
