This tsunami barrier gate is closed and illustrates a surprising design decision. Most of the gates are designed so that the pressure of the sea water pushes them up against the fixed gate pillars and wall foundation. This gate is on the opposite side of the wall than the sea. The load is transferred via the metal U-like structure bolted on top of the wall, which seems like a candidate for failure.
